Alfredo Jaar

Light. More light. Light for these dark times. – Alfredo Jaar

FOR-SITE stands in solidarity with the Black community in the Bay Area and beyond and in vehement opposition to systemic racism and state-sanctioned violence and oppression. We mourn the victims of police brutality: George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant, Sandra Bland, Philando Castile, Alton Sterling, Freddie Gray, and far too many others.

As an organization, we are dedicated to continuing and expanding on our support for human rights globally and locally and elevating Black and POC voices.

It is essential that we all commit to take action against police violence, white supremacy, and racism in our country. There are many ways to get involved with this struggle which will inevitably be a marathon, not a sprint. See below for a list of Bay Area initiatives that are doing good work in support of racial justice. We will be expanding this list as we learn more.

People’s Breakfast Oakland (PBO) is a grassroots Black socialists political organization which serves the houseless community essential resources. The organization has fed, provided clothing, and hygiene packs to over 5,000 Oakland residents.

SoOakland: Rebuilding Oakland Black Businesses helps rebuild and clean up black businesses that have been looted or vandalized.

Black Earth Farms delivers free meals to black people who have been arrested or injured at protests.

Anti-Police Terror Project support families surviving police terror in their fight for justice, documenting police abuses and connecting impacted families and community members with resources, legal referrals, and opportunities for healing.

Bay Area Anti-Repression Committee Bail Fund provides bail for those that do not have resources to bail or bond themselves.

TGI Justice Projects helps black trans leaders inside and outside of prisons through leadership development, legal support, and a re-entry program.
